Flights

Druk Air operates non-stop flights from Delhi to Paro several times each week. We recommend scheduling your trip to take advantage of these direct flights, as they offer great convenience. This was our inaugural experience with Druk Air, and I must say, both the service and aircraft exceeded our expectations. The highlight of the journey is undoubtedly the breathtaking scenery as you approach Paro Airport — be sure to secure a window seat for yourself! (Seats on the left side when traveling from Delhi to Paro and on the right side for the return leg).

When to Visit?

The best time to visit Bhutan largely depends on your preferences and interests:

·      Spring (March to May): Ideal for witnessing Bhutan's vibrant flora in full bloom and clear skies for trekking.

·      Autumn (September to November): The most popular time with mild weather, clear mountain        views, and festivals like Thimphu Tshechu.

·      Winter (December to February): Perfect for those who enjoy crisp mountain air and fewer tourists, although higher altitudes may experience snow.

Practical Tips for Travelers

Bhutan is renowned for its commitment to sustainability, boasting carbon-negative status, and a unique focus on happiness. To uphold these values, the country has implemented strict guidelines to deter mass tourism. For instance, all visitors are required to have a 24/7 local guide, ensuring a more immersive and responsible travel experience. To streamline your journey, it’s advisable to book your entire trip with a reputable hotel chain offering comprehensive packages that include visas (where needed), guides, accommodations, activities, transportation, and meals. I chose Divine Bhutan (IG: divine_bhutan) for my trip and was thoroughly impressed—from airport pickup to drop-off, every detail was meticulously handled.

For Indian nationals, no visa is required to enter Bhutan. However, travel insurance for the duration of your stay, a licensed guide, and payment of the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of INR 1200 per person per night are mandatory. While Bhutan's official currency is the Ngultrum, Indian rupees are widely accepted at a rate of 1 BTN = 1 INR (as of Jan’24).
